A Feast of the Spoken Word

The Word of Mouth - a new platform celebrating the spoken and written word in food, wine and travel - has been announced today as part of the 2010 Tasting Australia festival in Adelaide.

The FREE event will take place on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 May at the BankSA Feast for the Senses presented by LifeStyle FOOD Channel at the Adelaide Riverbank Precinct, Elder Park.

The Word of Mouth will provide a stimulating and fun insight into the world of food and wine, according to Tasting Australia Festival Director Ian Parmenter.
"Word of Mouth will be a two-day celebration of the spoken and written word in food and wine-related matters", said Parmenter.

"There will be debates, lively discussions and a chance to meet and learn more about some of the people who help shape the way we eat and drink.

"The stars of Tasting Australia will be taking part in sessions, including UK chef Antony Worrall Thompson of Ready, Steady, Cook fame and third-time visitor to Tasting Australia, Antonio Carluccio. Other participants include the celebrated British author and historian, Jill Norman and TV chef Paul Rankin, who changed the face of culinary Northern Ireland with the long-running TV series Gourmet Ireland.

"From Spain comes British journalist John Barlow, author of Everything but the squeal - a year of pigging out in northern Spain; from Canada, writer Anita Stewart; from New Zealand, chef and writer Julie Biuso and food and tourism educator Dr Richard Mitchell, and Irish writer and musician, Ernie Whalley.

"Were delighted that joining the top international names will be many of Australia's top chefs, writers, broadcasters and TV presenters including Maggie Beer, Stephanie Alexander, Frank Camorra, Richard Cornish, John Lethlean, Poh Ling Yeow, Lyndey Milan, Maeve O'Meara, Alan Saunders, Shannon Bennett, Will Studd, and Andre Ursini."

Sessions are diverse including Gourmet tours gourmet tears, a humorous exploration of the highs and lows of hosting gastronomic tours; Waiter, theres a critic in my soup, exploring the controversial business of restaurant criticism; and a debate about the future of the kitchen in the family home.

The Word of Mouth, festival of the spoken and written word will be hosted by Ian Parmenter, Festival Director and Joanna Savill, (of SBS TV and the Sydney Morning herald Good Food Guide). She is returning to Tasting Australia once again and is a highly respected presenter and journalist who has been involved with the event for many years.
