WHAT MAKES FOOD AND DRINK TASTE SO DELICIOUS?

Can we learn these secrets from a culinary festival?

A formidable panel of experts at the James Squire Food, Beer & Wine Writers' Festival say we can - from explaining some winning combinations of hot, salty, sweet and sour taste sensations to outlining smart selection of fresh foods that are local and seasonal. Discussing such intriguing information at FREE public forums has made this one of the most popular public events during Tasting Australia, the gala culinary celebration held across South Australia from 13-20 October 2007.

The 18 writers sessions being held over three days at this year's festival, hosted by celebrated food journalist and broadcaster Joanna Savill and wine journalist Peter Forrestal, will acknowledge that the future of food is in our hands, and leading chefs and writers from around the world will be giving us clues on how to take the best step forward. Chefs including Shannon Bennett, Madhur Jaffrey, Cheong Liew, Rick Stein, Stephanie Alexander, Antonio Carluccio and Maggie Beer will be joined by more than 50 international and Australian food, drink and travel authors, TV presenters, food and drink producers, and cookery teachers to talk with passion and authority about food issues that really matter, from the integrity of slow cooking traditions and classic cultural recipes to the merits of biodynamic farming.

In its new location outside the South Australian Museum on North Terrace, the James Squire Food, Beer & Wine Writers' Festival tents will be adjacent to the Tasting Australia Festival Village, where the cluster of marquees will house beer appreciation courses with James Squire, culinary delights and refreshing drinks from the James Squire Cafe, and a well-stocked bookstall providing opportunities to have leading food, beer and wine books signed by authors attending the festival.

The eight-day culinary extravaganza that is Tasting Australia allows you to take your taste buds on tour as South Australia hosts some of the world's top chefs in our most stunning locations.
