CALLING ALL FOOD, WINE AND BEER LOVERS

Lovers of gourmet food, fine wine and premium beer get ready…eight days of the best in eating and drinking begins in Adelaide tomorrow.

Tasting Australia kicks off with a major free public celebration - the LifeStyle FOOD Channel Feast for the Senses - at the Adelaide Riverbank Precinct, Elder Park, this Saturday and Sunday.

Launching the event today, Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith says Tasting Australia is one of the most significant events of its kind in the world.

"This is a time when people who love to eat and drink can do so with gusto," Dr Lomax-Smith says.

"Many of the world's leading culinary masters will be in town to conduct cooking classes and turn on amazing feasts matched with local wines at some of our leading restaurants.

"There's an event to appeal to every taste - from CheeseFest 07 at the McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Visitor Centre to a free farmers' market at the Adelaide Showgrounds.

"Rundle Street restaurants and cafes will be offering samples of their cuisine at Tasting Rundle Street and some of the 3000 wines at the 2007 Royal Adelaide Wine Show will be available for sampling.

"The James Squire Food, Beer and Wine Writers' Festival will be held over three days, featuring more than 50 international and national food, drink and travel experts discussing gastronomic topics.

"New this year is a unique opportunity for amateur foodies to cook and share a meal with the professionals at the Miele Rich Traditions in association with Australian Gourmet Traveller.

"Tasting Australia is this year celebrating its 10th birthday with the theme '10 years and growing'.

"The event is a major promotion of South Australia's excellence in food and wine production, with more than 100 local, national and international media in town for the occasion.

"All media representatives are personally escorted to our regions to learn about the stellar food and wine experience that South Australia offers to visitors.

"All South Australians are invited to attend Tasting Australia's public program of more than 65 events, many of which are free."

Tasting Australia runs from 13 - 20 October.

MEDIA NOTE: Dr Lomax-Smith will join celebrity chefs Antonio Carluccio and Madhur Jaffrey in Elder Park to launch Tasting Australia at 12 noon today, Friday 12 October.
