PETER EVANS

Peter Evans

Chef, restaurateur, television presenter and all round adventure junky Peter Evans is certainly a versatile man!

Born in Melbourne and raised on the Gold Coast, Pete's passion for cooking was discovered because of his passion for the great outdoors, any job that would see him working at night and surfing or fishing all the day was fine with him!

After opening his first restaurant, The Pantry, in Melbourne's bay side suburb of Brighton in 1993, Pete moved to Sydney in 1996 with his brother Dave and established his second restaurant Hugo's in Bondi, followed by Hugos Lounge in Kings Cross in 2000 and then Hugos Bar Pizza in 2004.  Pete's restaurants have gone on to win numerous awards including the recent "Best Pizza in the World" and "Best Bar in Australia" in late 2005.

But it was his 2006 television series FISH with the Lifestyle Channel that finally saw him combine both his passions, cooking and the outdoors.  Co-hosted by his fishing mad brother-in-law Udo Edlinger, the series followed the two as they visited some of Australia's most picturesque and remote fishing destinations, armed with nothing more than a sharp knife and makeshift barbecue Pete used the freshest produce to create the most mouth watering dishes.  "The food I'm cooking in FISH is as far from restaurant style food that you can get.  It's what I cook at home and when away on fishing holidays."

Along with his FISH series, Pete's work with The Lifestyle Channel includes over 60 episodes of Home a lifestyle program and a one-hour behind-the-scenes documentary, Cooking For Our Princess Mary.

Pete is also a regular contributor to Channel 9's FRESH and appears annually at some of Australia's most acclaimed food events such as the Good Food Shows and The Great Barrier Feast.

His first book, a collection of over 100 fish and seafood recipes from Australian and New Zealand species, also titled FISH, will publish with Murdoch books in August this year.

Pete lives, works and plays in Bondi, Sydney with his partner Astrid and their two girls Chilli, 2 and Indii 7 months.
