KINGSLEY SULLIVAN
Cooking teacher, food writer, lover of wine and good food and occasional gardener. Kingsley Sullivan is a founding director of New Norcia Bakeries, Western Australia's most highly awarded bakery and one of Australia's most recognized high quality food producers. A self-taught baker, Kingsley and his wife Chrissie started a one person baking business in the 120-year old wood-fired bakehouse at the Benedictine Monastery at New Norcia in 1993. Today the business produces around fifteen tonnes of high quality bread a week (most of it authentic sour dough) and distributes their famous New Norcia Nut Cake, Dom Salvado Pan Chocolatti and Wood-fired Almond Biscotti around Australia and around the world. New Norcia Bakeries breads are featured on the menu of many of Western Australia's leading restaurants and are served on Qantas First and Business Class flights on both domestic and international routes. Their products can be found in all good food stores throughout Australia and has featured on the shelves of Harvey Nichols and Selfridges in London, Jason's in Singapore and top food shops in Japan. The business has grown to now incorporate two retail shops and a café that has been nominated in Australian Gourmet Traveller magazine's top 500 restaurants and cafés in Australia for the past five years. In 1994 New Norcia Bakeries were awarded the Best Potential New Export Award by the Department of Commerce and Trade. In 2000 the Company received the prestigious Gourmet Traveller Jaguar Award for Excellence in Innovation in Produce. The following year New Norcia Bakeries were awarded the Minister for Arts and Culture Award for Sponsorship of The Arts. In 2003 Kingsley Sullivan was awarded the Centenary Medal for his contribution to business and tourism. New Norcia Bakeries have been featured on ABCTV Consuming Passions, Stephanie Alexander's A Shared Table (on ABCTV and Foxtel LifeStyle Channel) and the recent international TV hit Surfing the Menu. New Norcia Bakeries have also featured in most notable lifestyle magazines including Delicious, Vogue Entertaining, Australian Gourmet Traveller, The Weekend Australian Magazine as well as The Times in London and Wallpaper magazine in the UK. |
